Aston's Spectrometer

Francis Aston invented the Mass Spectrometer, used to prove the isotopes of chlorine, argon and neon. This has progressed onwards to be useful in protein dissemination, analytical work, and of course, forensic investigation.

This is his original mass spectrometer, on display at the Cavendish Laboratory in Cambridge.
