At the end of the Distant Worlds event, one can sneak access to the NHM through the Museums underpass that you need to take to get to the tube station. Of course, it's closing time, so it's very deserted. This does mean that you get the chance to take the wonderful silence and the colourful winter lighting covering the museum building and the Christmas ice rink.
